We are seeking a Research Technician for the Centre for Fine Print Research, UWE Bristol as part of the EPSRC funded project Woodbury and Lippmann: A new approach to continuous tone and full colour non-impact printing.

A historic development, the CMYK halftone process and the ruled glass screen patented by Frederick Ives, has led to the reproduction of almost all present day images as pixelated CMYK prints. Historic processes, such as those invented by Woodbury and Lippmann produce prints far superior to anything which is commercially available at the present time. Those processes have been largely forgotten as they were not commercially competitive. This project aims to lift those technologies from obscurity to the forefront of modern developments. The new incarnations of old printing technologies will allow production of high quality prints for advertising, packaging, fashion and, at the same time, include impossible to replicate security features.

Initially you will help to set up the laboratory space and equipment have responsibility for the smooth running of the lab.  You will undertake both physical modification of the printers and run these within Health and Safety regulations, source and order parts, consumables, chemicals and materials keeping accurate financial records.

You will require engineering experience or training and will be trained in the daily maintenance and risk requirements which will be provided by the university. The project will include trips to visit partners and research facilities.

Closing date for applications is 4 March 2018 at 11.59 pm.

Interviews week commencing 19 March 2018.
