Job Description

Under the direction of the Child Services Manager and in collaboration with the Child Development
Facilitator, Teacher I is responsible for the classroom operation including planning, carrying out activities, maintaining a safe classroom
environment, supervising children and keeping them safe. He/she conducts parent/teacher conferences, home visits and supervises classroom
volunteers. He/she is responsible to work with parents and Teacher II daily to plan and implement an individualized curriculum for up to 19,
three to five year old children in the Head Start classroom. He/she works in partnerships with other teacher and Full time Advocate to build
positive relationships with the families.

Multiple position available- 3 openings in Cedar City, UT; 2 openings in St. George, UT, 1
opening in Parowan, UT

General Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrates and models good health, nutrition,
    safety and positive discipline practices and supports the other Teachers in providing children and parents with a positive respectful
    classroom environment.
  2. Responsible to make sure each child's screenings, assessments, and evaluations are completed as scheduled,
    they are accurately recorded (including Memory Kids), and are then reported to parents and the central office in a timely manner and then
    use the information to guide individualized curriculum planning for each child.
  3. Support the specific needs of children who come to
    Head Start with Individual Education Plans (IEP), and assist parents to refer their child to the Local Education
    Agency for assessment of concerns are noted or develop after enrollment.
  4. Supports parents in their role as prime educator of their
    child by building an engaged trusting relationship and by integrally involving them in the development of home and classroom learning
    activities individualized for their child.
  5. Responsible for maintaining education logs on each enrolled child and family in class="caps">PROMIS.
  6. Responsible to conduct at least two parent/teacher conferences and two home visits with each family
    where information about the child's growth and development is shared back and forth between teachers and parents.
  7. Maintains order
    and cleanliness with daily cleaning, regular disinfection of toys, furniture and toothbrushes, and proper storage of toys and equipment both
    inside the classroom and on the playground.
  8. Maintains the classroom inventory and may transport materials and other supplies from
    the Central Office.
  9. Coordinates with Family Advocate on Parent Committee Meetings, attends and presents a classroom update and
    parent training on curriculum.
  10. Attends and implements required training including pre-service, in-service, Head Start conferences,
    workshops and individualized training.
  11. He/she is responsible to abide by the SUU Head Start Standard of
    Conduct, Head Start Performance Standards, and Southern Utah University employee policies and procedures. Maintains a high level of
    professionalism in all job related duties and acts in the best interest of Southern Utah University and SUU Head
    Start at all times.
  12. Accepts other employment-related duties assigned by the SUU Head Start Central Office
    staff.
Required Qualifications
  1. An Associate Degree in Early Childhood or a related area with Early
    Childhood classes with a willingness to work toward a Bachelor's degree is required. A Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood or a bachelor's
    Degree in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major relating to early childhood education is strongly preferred.
  2. The
    ability to speak and write both English and Spanish strongly preferred.
  3. Experience working with preschool children required.

  4. Must demonstrate adequate health to do the job. She/he must be able to lift 40 lbs. and carry it 50 feet and be able to sit on the
    carpet and get back up without assistance.
  5. Must be willing to obtain an initial physical exam including TB test, prior to
    employment, and thereafter have an annual exam certifying that he/she is fit to perform the job.
  6. She/he must be willing to work
    effectively in a team with agency representatives, parents, Coordinators, Facilitators, Family Advocate, and other professionals to meet
    needs of the children and families.
  7. Employee maintains a commitment of professional ethics, confidentiality, communicates
    effectively and takes responsibility for and participates in compliance and professional development. (CLASS,
    In-service Trainings, Conferences and Continuing Education).
  8. The person hired must be willing to have their name checked with the
    BCI database and must not have a substantiated case of child abuse on record.
  9. Must have, or be willing to
    obtain and maintain a CPR and First Aid certification as well as Food Handlers Permit. Training on bloodborne
    pathogens, hazardous chemicals exposure, and sexual harassment prevention are also required.
  10. Employment is conditional on approval
    of the Head Start Policy Council.

In accordance with Utah State Code 53B-1-110, appointment to this position is contingent
upon the successful passing of a background check.
