Position Summary

The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson provides state-of-the-art programs of medical

The College of Medicine - Tucson is recruiting a
Research Specialist to support clinical research conducted by University of Arizona faculty. The selected individual will specialize in
study initiation, regulatory, documentation, interactions with sponsor and study closeout (75% effort). In addition, the selected individual
will participate in recruitment and enrollment of potential participants (25% effort). Additional clinical research activities will include
coordination with other clinical research staff, the creation and population of databases and interactions with the faculty members leading
the research activities.

The Research Specialist will be an employee of College of Medicine - Tucson campus. This position seeks a
candidate who will oversee and participate in the coordination, conduct and evaluation of clinical research studies, apply knowledge of
clinical research to the study population, which includes infants, children, adolescent, and adult study subjects. The Research Specialist
will work on a team and demonstrate competence in clinical research skills, problem-solving and priority setting.

The work
schedule could include some occasional evenings and weekends.

Duties & Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance and

  • Participate in preparation, review, submission and maintenance of regulatory activities/submissions, ensure
    accuracy and timeliness to all collaborative parties.
  • Prepare for and participate in monitor visits, audits, and quality
    reviews (internal and external) in a professional manner.

Clinical Research Practice:

  • Develop and implement
    associated projects under the guidance of the research director.
  • Collaborate effectively with others to ensure proper
    progress and completion of studies.


  • Maintain awareness of status of all active
  • Identify potentially eligible participants.
  • Conduct pre-consent screening procedures
    according to protocol specifications to determine eligibility.
  • Execute the informed consent process according to Good
    Clinical Practices (GCP), procedures and other applicable policies.
  • Communicate with
    participants' clinical team regarding study participation as indicated by protocol and/or manual of operations.
  • Document
    in applicable systems (tracking, electronic health, etc.) participants approached, screened and enrolled in the study.

  • Communicate challenges with recruitment and retention to the study leadership.


  • Compose clear,
    precise and detailed correspondence.
  • Develop a rapport with study participants.
  • Communicate study
    related issues to investigators, sponsors, coordinating centers, study coordinators, clinical team, managers and other institutions in a
    timely fashion.

Data Management:

  • Conduct data entry and validation to ensure accuracy, quality and compliance of
    the data collection process.
  • Maintain the master database files for clinical research protocols.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of research clinical
  • Experience with study initiation and regulatory document maintenance.
  • Experience with
    research protocols, development and regulations.
  • Leadership qualities and experience as an administrator.

  • Motivated to provide high quality, compliant research.
  • Skill in maintaining detailed records.

  • Desire to build new program and develop new policies.

Bachelor's degree in a field
appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience
appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

    and with a team.
  • High level of integrity, ethics and professionalism.
  • Strong communication and
    computer skills.
