We are looking for a collaborative team member with a passion for developing early-stage
technologies into commercial impact. The Commercialization Network Liaison will lead CU Boulder's efforts to
bridge Boulder's outstanding innovation community together with university researchers who are commercializing their inventions.
/>The mission for the Commercialization Network Liaison is to increase the commercial impact of university
innovators and innovations, by building and enhancing university-community collaboration. Boulder possesses a unique community of talented
entrepreneurs and business leaders. This community exhibits a "give-first" and collaborative mentality, as described in Brad Feld's book
Startup Communities. There exists a significant opportunity to deepen the integration of CU Boulder's technology transfer operation
within the Boulder ecosystem, and the Commercialization Network Liaison will seize upon this opportunity.

The position will
report directly to the Director of Technology Transfer.

The Technology Transfer Office
(TTO) is a key catalyst for innovation. TTO's mission is to facilitate the transfer of breakthrough inventions from the University to

What your key responsibilities will be:
  • Build and nurture a commercialization network of
    community members, wherein the network combines i) deep experience with early ventures and ii) breadth across CU Boulder's areas of
    technology innovation.
  • Leverage the commercialization network to advance and develop innovative technologies and to help develop
    commercialization skillsets among faculty, grad student, and post doc inventors.
  • Create programming to connect network advisors
    with a high-throughput of university inventors.
  • Manage an Entrepreneur in Residence program, which is made up of a small subset of
    Network advisors. Optimize deployment of current EIRs, and recruit new EIRs.
  • Liaise with RIO communications staff to create and
    deliver commercialization network promotion to i) faculty, graduate student, and post-doc inventors, and ii) current and prospective network
    advisors.
  • Collaborate with TTO case managers to identify the best opportunities for the commercialization network.
  • Coach
    campus inventors prior to their engagement with network advisors.
  • Facilitate advisor meetings, document meeting content, create
    action plans, and track their execution.
  • Benchmark CU Boulder's commercialization network with other leading universities.

Qualifications

What we require:

  • Bachelor's degree in science or engineering from an accredited institution.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience focused
    on the commercialization of early, innovative technologies.
What you will need:
  • A creative
    and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Excellent networking and relationship skills - this is critical to building a world-class
    commercialization network
  • An ability to harness and drive group creativity toward action
  • A deep understanding of the
    commercialization of research innovations, including key developmental steps and pitfalls
  • Ability to strive toward excellence in
    both i) individual commercialization projects, and ii) the portfolio of projects at the high-scale produced by the campus

  • Sensitivity to and appreciation of cultural, political and geographical differences, with ability to work well with faculty, staff and
    students from around the world.
What we'd like you to have:
  • Master's degree or higher in
    science, engineering, or business, or a law degree
  • Proven success working within or directly with higher education

  • Knowledge of and connections into the Boulder/Denver innovation ecosystem
