Description

This will be a full time position within the Facilities Services Department to address energy and
facilities strategies in support of the educational, sustainability, operational and maintenance goals of the university. The position is to
identify and assist in the evaluation of these strategies to ensure optimal use of energy and water as part of the university's commitment
to reduce the university's carbon footprint in a financially responsible manner. This may be accomplished by identifying energy conservation
measures, assistance with new building design, identifying and supporting retrofit projects, improving facility operational and maintenance
strategies, utility consumption and rate evaluations, etc.

Job Duties:

Energy
Management
  • Develop, prioritize and implement, through energy audits and data review (design and construction documents,
    trend data, etc.), energy and water conservation measures with cost estimates, savings and technical feasibility as appropriate.

  • Develop measurement and verification (M&V) methodology for completed conservation projects.
  • Review and address utility data
    trends for accuracy and savings opportunities.
  • Analyze utility rate options including electric, natural gas transport and renewable
    energy options with Colorado Springs Utilities and third party vendors.
  • Work with the building automation system to identify
    opportunities for improved sequence of operations and to reduce peak demand charges for the university and to assist with efficient
    management of buildings.
  • Evaluate renewable energy options for possible implementation.
  • Collaborate with Sustainability
    Office to coordinate with behavioral conservation strategies and campaigns
  • Support student initiatives and educational experiences
    with technical support as requested
Operations
  • Support the HVAC facilities staff to analyze and
    optimize heating, cooling and ventilating systems for efficient and effective thermal comfort and indoor air quality.
  • Support the
    facilities department with engineering expertise for operations, repair and replacement decisions.
  • Support the facilities staff
    with technical training as appropriate.
  • Identify and assist with retro-commissioning projects for existing buildings where
    appropriate.
  • Analyze and recommend Demand Side Reduction (DSR) strategies for potential change in rate classes for select buildings
    and reduced electricity costs.
  • Develop energy utilization guidelines and standards to support the facilities and design staff.

  • Support the development of preventive maintenance schedules for building systems.
  • Work with the facilities staff to identified
    planned maintenance (controlled maintenance) needs.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agency policies, including federal, state and
    local legislation, rules and guidance.
New Facilities
  • Provide project management for the implementation
    of energy, water, operations and maintenance improvement projects.
  • Support the project design and construction processes through
    review of design and construction documents for all new buildings to optimize energy and resource efficiency.
  • Support project
    design and construction with technical expertise.
  • Participate in Owner Architect Contractor (OAC) meetings when appropriate and
    recommend solutions for technical issues during the construction process.
  • Provide technical expertise to achieve USGBC LEED GOLD or
    LEED equivalent buildings.

For purposes of
FLSA, this position has been determined to be exempt from (not eligible for) overtime under FLSA.

Salary Range:
$71,000 - $80,000

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's
    degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited program.
  • Five years of experience in energy management,
    mechanical and/or electrical systems design, construction, and/or maintenance, or closely related field.
  • Five years of experience
    in institutional, commercial and/or industrial type facilities in engineering.
  • Experience with building automation systems.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Master's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from an accredited
    program.
  • Seven years of experience in energy management, mechanical and/or electrical systems design, construction, and/or
    maintenance, or closely related field.
  • Experience with commissioning and retro-commissioning.
  • Significant experience with
    building automation systems.
  • Experience working with students in an educational environment
  • Registered Professional
    Engineer
  • LEED AP - Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
  • Energy Modeling experience
  • AutoCAD capable
