In this role, you will be responsible for building positive relationships to support consultation and engagement with the appropriate First Nation, Metis locals, trappers, or other stakeholders in relation to regulatory applications and stakeholder interests, related to Suncor's ongoing operations and growth projects in Wood Buffalo.

You will use your expertise to:
  • Contribute to the development of the one-year and long-term strategic plans and ensure respective work teams’ plans are aligned to both the functional plans and appropriate business unit goals
  • Lead and manage Indigenous consultation for regulatory approvals and stakeholder engagement on land use matters
  • Apply your own technical experience and knowledge to successfully engage with identified First Nation and Metis partners regarding our assets and activities and build support for Suncor exploration, development, and operations
  • Internally, build relationships and commitment from business partners and subject matter experts at various levels to support the development and delivery of messages that further Suncor’s business strategy and positively influence Suncor’s reputation
  • Support daily consultation filing requirements and maintain the integrity of the records management systems
  • Identify areas for continuous improvements related to our services, tools and processes and implement, where appropriate
  • Act as a steward of Indigenous and Community Relations’ (I&CR) function’s goals to respective client groups

Must-haves (minimum requirements):
  • Eight or more years of experience in regulatory applications and consultation or equivalent experience or technical expertise in a related field
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) combined with related post-secondary diploma/certificate or Post-secondary degree and/or supporting experience
  • Experience leading and/or implementing unstructured projects to completion within a changing environment
  • Experience in identifying priorities and interests of Indigenous communities and stakeholders and collaborating on mitigating concerns
  • Deep understanding of oil and gas industry, provincial regulatory consultation requirements, First Nation and Metis consultation guidelines and policies
  • An understanding of, and experience with, Indigenous and community groups including proven experience with developing and fostering strong community relations
  • Model and provide coaching and informal leadership to key stakeholders and respective clients
  • Manage self-directed work and liaise effectively with teams in other geographical locations
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Alignment with our

  • Professional association member and/or professional accreditation
  • Technical expertise in a related field to support the work
  • Full knowledge, application, and delivery of organizational services, tools, and processes with capability to work independently on complex assignments
  • Adaptive work style with an ability to handle multiple priorities, challenging demands and function in a dynamic work environment
Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:
  • This position is based in Fort McMurray or Calgary, Alberta with frequent travel to business locations
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
  • Occasional requirement to attend evening and weekend events
