Job Description

Stevens Institute of Technology is seeking a
collaborative and exceptional communicator to administer a best-in-class benefits function in support of Stevens' strategic objectives.

The Benefits Administrator is responsible for supporting the day to day administration of all benefits, leave and retirement programs,
including the 403(b) retirement plan and retiree healthcare. This position provides expert advice and customer service on benefit queries
and supports the effective communication of those programs. The Benefits Administrator is responsible for data management and process
improvements. This position will coordinate with the Senior Director of Human Resources to ensure all benefits, leave and retirement
programs are compliant with contracts and legislation and are in line with the Stevens' objectives and culture. This position will also
assist the Senior Director of Human Resources on other projects as they arise.


  • Counsel employees regarding all benefits program including leave programs.
  • Primary point of
    contact for all benefits questions, including health and welfare, tuition, leave and retirement programs.
  • Responsible for accurate
    data entry of benefits, including new hires, terminations, qualifying life events, into the HR system and vendor systems.

  • Responsible for the administration of workers' compensation, leave and disability programs ensuring the process, claims and forms are
    compliant, timely and accurate. Work with employees, providers and vendors to ensure proper documentation is completed and filed.

  • Liaise between employee/retiree and benefits carriers when an issue arises with employee benefits.
  • Work closely with the HRIS
    team and providers to administer the Annual Open Enrollment process.
  • Receive and arrange for payment of all benefit invoices.
    Ensure payments are current, on time and accurate.
  • Responsible for administration of the 403(b) retirement plan to include timely,
    accurate and compliant remittance of employee and employer contributions.
  • Audit benefits invoices to ensure all employee changes
    have been entered into providers' systems and are accurately reflected on invoices.
  • Maintain all benefit and retirement plans
  • Provide and coordinate employee education meetings.
  • Assist Payroll dept. with payroll discrepancies and
    Workday reporting issues related to Benefits and retirement plans.
  • Assist with annual Benefit Plan audit; support audit request and
    act as a liaison with vendors to collect data.
  • Manage the administration of all tuition benefit programs including tuition
    remissions, tuition aid, and tuition exchange program.
  • Coordinate the retiree medical program for vendor billing and coverage
  • Oversee the review and reconciliation of Workday integration transmission files to and from providers.
  • Special
    projects and other responsibilities as assigned.


  • Completion of Undergraduate
    University Degree, Community College Diploma or equivalent business experience.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years in a benefit administration
    role for US benefits. Experience in higher education is a plus.
  • Knowledge of DC/DB Pension plans is required.


  • Expert knowledge of Excel and some proficiency in HRIS systems
  • Strong customer service orientation and ability to work with customers to address issues in all functional HR areas.

  • Strong problem solving skills and ability to maintain calm in a fast paced environment.
  • Strong administration, organizational,
    planning and time management skills
  • Possess high quality communication and written skills to maintain and create documentation for
    configuration and support.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for
    dealing with and building relationships.
  • Must be organized, detail oriented, be able to prioritize tasks, and to work under
    mandated deadlines in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the day
  • Occasionally needs to move between
    academic buildings on campus
