About this Role:

The Department of Diagnostic Medicine/Pathobiology within the
College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Research Assistant Professor position. This position will have
the responsibility to plan and conduct experiments with minimal supervision from a senior investigator in the field of countermeasures for
foreign animal diseases that may affect livestock species (mostly cattle and swine).

Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Design, plan and conduct experiments, keep
    laboratory records and writes manuscripts and articles; prepare grant applications, and monitor expenditures. Supervises a technician/fellow
    in performing analytical tests in molecular virology and cell biology of viral foreign animals diseases including but not limited to, foot
    and mouth disease, African swine fever and classical swine fever.
  • Specifically, designs and performs experiments on swine/cattle
    viral pathogen diagnostic tests, virus-host interactions, vaccine development, virus isolation, cell culture, SDS-PAGE, immunoassays,
    prepare research proposals and manuscripts independently or in collaboration with other senior investigators in the Foreign Animal Disease
    Research Unit at PIADC and/or the Dept. of Diagnostic Medicine and Pathobiology at KSU.
  • Data analysis and manuscript preparation,
    present data in lab meetings and national and international meetings.

Required Minimum

  • Ph.D. degree in virology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, or vaccinology and
    more than two years of relevant experience are required.
  • Candidate must have strong background knowledge and skills of virology,
    molecular biology, immunology and vaccinology, including (but not limit to) gene cloning, protein expression and purification, protein
    characterization, bacterial and cell culture, molecular and serological testing, antibody titration and neutralization activity
    characterization, animal immunization via various routes, animal challenge studies, and vaccine efficacy assessment.
  • Candidate
    should also have good oral and written communication skills, ability to effectively analyze data, present results and draft manuscripts.
    Good interpersonal skills are also necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidates with experience in constructing recombinant viruses and handling large experimental animals will be given preference

  • Knowledge on innate immunity is a preferred
