Job Description Summary:

Job ID: 5116

Writing Specialist is part of the Learning Assistance team who will work
directly with the Language, Literature and Writing department to support students who might be academically or socio-economically
disadvantaged and show some risk factors for not completing college.

Duties/Physical Demands:
  • Coordinate
    programs for developmental writing programs: ENG 007, Blended ENG007/111, ENG104 & 105, and teach 5 to 6 credit hours per semester

  • Monitor developmental writing curriculum in collaboration with Language Literature and Writing department and maintain alignment between
    College Readiness writing, developmental writing (ENG007) and Composition & Rhetoric (ENG111)
  • Hire, coordinate, train, &
    promote writing tutors
  • Offer professional tutoring and act as liaison between OLA and ENG/LLW
  • Serve on Languages,
    Literatures, and Writing Committee
  • Assess incoming students' writing to resolve disputed placement recommendations
  • Perform
    academic advising (1:1 & SOAR) and follow-up caseload management for College Readiness writing program 
  • Manage caseload
    for students on academic warning
  • Keep current with trends in developmental writing
  • Contribute to the on-going mission of
    the Office of Learning Assistance
  • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree
in English or related field; 3 years of experience working with developmental writers; experience with curriculum design and implementation;
knowledge of basic composition and rhetorical analysis theory. Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; significant
attention-to-detail; the ability to learn and communicate detailed policies and procedures; and experience in the development and
implementation of special programs or workshops for low income or potential first-generation students or students with academic
need.
