Lethbridge Addiction and Mental Health services has an opportunity in Acute Adult Inpatient Psychiatry at Chinook Regional Hospital, for an experienced Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) who is dedicated to providing leading, patient and family centered care and is passionate about making a difference in the lives of Albertans. As an Registered Nurse/ Registered Psychiatric Nurse on the interdisciplinary team you will be responsible for the rapid assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for psychiatric patients using your thorough knowledge and experience of evidence based addiction and mental health treatment modalities (both pharmacological and nonpharmacological), using strong verbal communication skills that supports verbal messages being received and understood within the context of crisis and non-crisis situations. You have a working knowledge of mental health across populations, the Mental Health Act and DSM V. You have a demonstrated ability to function effectively in a stressful environment and effectively resolve conflict using excellent interpersonal skills. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Psychiatric Nursing Diploma and an active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA) for RPNs. Minimum two (2) years’ within the last five (5) years’ experience working within an Addiction and Mental Health role, however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in mental health sector may be considered (RN or RPN). Non Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI). Experience in an Addiction and Mental Health role in an acute psychiatric hospital setting. Experience with Clinical Information Systems (i.e. Meditech).
