Your Opportunity:

Are you passionate about improving the health of populations vulnerable to increased risk of chronic disease? The Temporary Program Consultant will work as part of the Provincial Tobacco Reduction Program (TRP) and reports to the manager. The Provincial TRP, within the Chronic Disease Prevention and Oral Health portfolio under Healthy Living and Population, Public and Indigenous Health, supports implementation of the Alberta Health Tobacco Reduction Strategy. This Program Consultant I - Tobacco Reduction Program role is responsible for furthering work started on development of a multi-year tobacco reduction strategy targeted toward Albertans with mental illness and/or concurrent addiction issues. The incumbent will need a solid understanding of relevant literature, evidence and best practice approaches for tobacco reduction. The role is required to engage with a variety of stakeholders both internal and external to AHS and to collaborate with AHS Provincial Addiction and Mental Health, TRP and CDPOH colleagues in development of the strategy, including logic model, budget, implementation and evaluation plan. Health equity and social determinants of health are to be factored in. This role is posted as located in Lethbridge, but is negotiable across the province. Additional responsibilities in support of zone and/or Provincial TRP work may also be assigned. The incumbent acts independently, adheres to AHS code of conduct, uses strong written and verbal communication skills, make decisions and demonstrates sensitivity, discretion and tact. Note: The TRP focuses on commercial tobacco and tobacco like products, and is not referring to traditional/sacred tobacco.


As a Program Consultant I, you will work within a team to support program implementations. You will have the opportunity to work closely with both internal and external stakeholders. As the Program Consultant I, you will provide leadership and support in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating health promotion and disease prevention projects and initiatives.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in a health related field. Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with applicable college. Minimum two years' experience in tobacco reduction and/or Addiction and Mental Health. Broad knowledge in tobacco control, including strategies and best practice in prevention, cessation and policy development. Facilitation and/or coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation. Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Tobacco Educator (CTE) credential is an asset. Project management training and experience is an asset.
