Your Opportunity:

The Health Promotion Facilitator-Program Consultant will work in the Tobacco Reduction Program (TRP) and reports to the manager. The TRP, within the Chronic Disease Prevention and Oral Health portfolio under Healthy Living-Population, Public and Indigenous Health, supports implementation of the Alberta Health Tobacco Reduction Strategy. You will coordinate tobacco reduction activities including (but not limited to) building the capacity of health care providers to provide tobacco cessation services, planning Quit Core group tobacco cessation group programs, support implementation of the Tobacco Care Pathway and AHS Tobacco and Smoke Free Environments policy and improving the reach of prevention initiatives such as the Academy for Tobacco Prevention. This will require a thorough understanding of the literature and evidence-based tobacco reduction best practice approaches in North America, and excellent relationship/stakeholder engagement skills. You will review surveillance data to identify high prevalence, at-risk communities and populations, and develop project charters, work plans and logic models in collaboration with community partners and TRP/CDPOH colleagues. Health equity and social determinants of health are to be factored in. Additional responsibilities may further the work of the TRP in the zone/province. You will act independently, adhere to AHS code of conduct, applies excellent communication skills, and shows sensitivity, discretion and tact. The location is negotiable within North Zone West. The TRP focuses on commercial tobacco and tobacco like products, and does not include traditional/sacred tobacco. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay. Description:

As a Health Promotion Facilitator I, you will assist communities to be healthier through mentoring, advocacy and education. You will link individuals and/or communities to relevant health resources within the region or province and work with community partners to access, plan, implement and evaluate health promotion strategies. You will participate in special studies and/or research projects and review health-related data and identify trends relative to population health and at risk groups. You will facilitate the development and/or implementation of program specific guidelines in partnership with other stakeholders. You will plan, develop and facilitate workshops, seminars and presentations for staff and communities. You will prepare work plans, budgets and year end reports and provide input for departmental goals and strategies.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Health Promotion, Health Sciences, Health Education or a related field.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with applicable college. Minimum two years' experience in tobacco reduction; including broad knowledge in tobacco control, including strategies and best practice in prevention, cessation and policy development. Facilitation and/or coordination experience in project planning, execution, reporting, monitoring, and evaluation.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Tobaco Educator (CTE) designation would be considered an asset Project management skills/training would be considered an asset
