POSITION STATUS: Exempt
REPORTS TO: Project Director, TRiO SSS-ESL
SUPERVISES:
Full time staff and hourly employees

The Student Success Center:The Student Success Center (SSC) at the Community College of Aurora is dedicated to increasing the retention,
completion and transfer of CCA students. SSC focuses on students who are underrepresented in higher education, financially under-resourced,
first-generation college students, nontraditional or otherwise educationally disadvantaged. We facilitate student transitions, build
community and guide students through the completion of their two-year degree in preparation for a successful transition to a four-year
institution. This academic program, open to all eligible CCA students, includes the TRIO Student Support Services program (open to 160 first
generation and low-income college students), TRIO Student Support Services - English as a Second Language program (open to 140
first-generation and low-income college students) the Transfer Success Program - open to 500 transfer-ready CCA students. Included in the
Transfer Success Program (all of these scholarships are programs designed for students seeking to transfer) are participants in the Colorado
Challenge scholars, COSI Scholarship Recipients, Brother 2 Brother Program, Red Fox College Access and Success Program. The Transfer Success
Program also supports all ASCENT students from surrounding school districts including Aurora, Denver and Cherry Creek.

The Student Success Center provides group advising, one-on-one advising, peer mentoring, tutoring, a college visit program, career -
transfer - financial literacy and specific academic success workshops focused on career, transfer planning and financial literacy.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The TRIO Student Support Services English as a Second Language advisor position is integral to the
success of CCA's TRIO Student Support Services grant - providing academic advising, coaching and mentoring for 60 TRIO SSS-ESL students. The
position is responsible for maintaining consistent contact with their assigned cohort or students, documenting student contact in accordance
with federal legislation and program requirements, following up with students and working as a member of the TRIO SSS-ESL team. This
position will also assist in the development of TRIO orientation programs, conferences and new student recruitment and selection. This
position will teach at least one section of an AAA 101: College Experience course each fall semester. This position facilitates and oversees
various areas of project programming which can include the Student Success Leadership Program (SSL) in partnership with other Student
Success Center staff, workshop series, or other programming.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student Support (80%)

  • Maintains a caseload of 60
  • Proactively
    outreaches to students
  • Provides accurate academic advising information and assists students in planning and completing their degree
    from CCA
  • Assists students in navigating the transfer process
  • Ensures timely communication of important dates and
    deadlines
  • Assists students in understanding the financial aid process and enhancing student financial literacy
  • Teaches
    TRiO specific AAA 101 when appropriate
Programming Development and Support (10%)
  • Assists with the delivery and
    development of the TRIO Orientation program and KEY (Keep Enhancing Yourself) Connections Conference
  • Assists with the recruitment
    and selection of new TRIO students
  • Creates and facilitates sessions for student-centered Professional Development workshop
    series
  • Develops and implements other programs as needed
Grant Reporting and Accountability (10%)
  • Documents,
    accurately, the contacts with TRIO SSS ESL students
  • Maintains the integrity of each student folder in accordance with federal
    legislation and program requirements
  • Provides student level data to the Project Director when requested and in accordance with
    program requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in
    education, counseling, public administration or a related field
  • Experience with academic advising, coaching or mentoring

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience working in a team setting
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in education, counseling, public administration or a
    related field
  • Innovative, creative, energetic work style
  • Understanding of the mission and purpose of a community
    college
  • Experience teaching or facilitating groups
  • Understanding the barriers faced by first generation college
    students
  • Understanding of the transfer process from community college to four-year institutions
Salary
Range:
Anticipated salary range is in the mid $30's to low $40's depending on experience and education. CCA offers an excellent
