Position Overview
The TRIO Educational Opportunity
Center (EOC) is a federally-funded program at the University of Kansas. The purpose of the EOC is to provide low-income and/or potentially
first-generation college students with the tools, resources and motivation to begin or continue their post-secondary education. This program
serves a total of 1,000 participants each year in Leavenworth and Franklin county. The successful candidate will be responsible for program
activities in Franklin county with occasional travel to Leavenworth. The activities include but are not limited to, contacting community
agencies and high schools to recruit students; career counseling; workshops; FAFSA/FSA ID completion; college admissions process; explaining
the financial aid process; helping to find scholarships; GED preparation; College entrance exams. This individual will occasionally be
required to work evenings and weekends. This position is contingent upon funding.

  • Coordinate, design, implement and participate in all aspects of the program activities and services that
    strengthen the adult learner's development that is related to successful school completion and post-secondary entry/re-entry.

  • Provide 1:1 and group advising to assist high school seniors and adults apply & enroll in postsecondary institutions/programs.

  • Assist participants in the completion of the FAFSA, FSA ID and scholarship applications.
  • Provide 1:1 and group advising
    academic, career, college guidance assistance to participants in Franklin County.
  • Conducting workshops and presentations to
    participating schools and community partners.
  • Working with guidance counselors and community members familiar with potential
    participants who may not have a GED.
  • Actively participate in the development of EOC literature and distribute in target areas.

  • Establish and maintain contacts with community partners.

  • Monitor student participation and
    ensure program goals and objectives are being met.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate records and documentation
    regarding participant.
  • Compile and analyze data, prepare/submit reports in a timely manner to Director, and assist with all
    required reports, including the Annual Performance (APR) for the US Department of Education.
  • Providing continual program evaluation
    and conducts on-going assessment of program needs and makes necessary modifications.
  • Coordinating college visits
  • Acts as
    spokesperson for project in working with public agencies, civic organizations and local businesses in publicizing to the target
    community.

  • Networking and working with professional staff from KU-EOC/
  • Attends local,
    state, regional and national conferences.
  • Participate in the Center for Educational Opportunity Programs (CEOP) quarterly meetings
    and events.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director
Required
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in education, counseling or related field at time of appointment.
  2. Previous
    experience that required strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.
  3. Previous experience working with
    target population in coordinating and implementing advising meetings, workshops/presentations and/or programming.
  4. Experience
    working with college applications, financial aid processes, FAFSA, Financial Literacy and/or other relevant educational
    resources.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in computer application skills (i.e., Microsoft Office applications/software, internet
    research, email).
  6. Must have a valid driver's license
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Master's degree
    in education, counseling, or a related field.
  2. Two years of experience working with target population.
  3. Knowledge of Free
    Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
  4. Prior experience working with TRIO or similar programs.

  5. Demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse social, economic, academic, and cultural
    backgrounds
  6. Experience working with officials in high schools, post-secondary institutions, target area community partners.

  7. Excellent organizational skills and ability to exercise initiative when necessary as evidenced by application materials.
  8. Strong
    oral and written communication, including experience with design and delivery of presentations to a variety of audiences, as evidenced by
    application materials.
  9. Experience building community partnerships, promoting education and networking skills.

  10. Demonstration of excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills.
  11. Ability to work independently and comply with program
    guidelines.
  12. Grant writing experience
