The Vice Provost for Research (VPR) recently created
an Institution-wide Research Development Team (RDT), to help faculty enhance their research competitiveness, catalyze new research and
institutional collaboration, and design and implement strategic services for faculty and researchers seeking external funding at Johns
Hopkins. This position will design, develop, and deliver training related to research administration, primarily topics related to funding
agencies and proposal submission. This position works with a high degree of independence and responsibility.

The primary
duties and responsibilities of the job:

  • Convey technical information in a clear and accessible manner to a
    variety of technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Disseminate information to various groups of JHU recipients on a regular
  • Monitor and analyze developments and major issues in higher education (research funding) to ensure they are shared with
    faculty as appropriate;
  • Conduct regularly scheduled (or ad hoc) training sessions for faculty, staff and students;
  • Host
    casual meetings with departmental staff to discuss specific topics (e.g. Brown Bag Lunches);
  • Create documents that support the
    instructional mission of research administration;
  • May participate in new faculty orientation programs to share details about
    research administration at JHU;
  • Maintain appropriate data on all program participants;
  • Lead the preparation of electronic
    training materials for routine as well as special training programs;
  • Anticipate future training needs and develop creative ideas
    regarding possible solutions;
  • Develop and sustain contacts with university leadership, faculty, staff, and other constituents;

  • Help to create a work environment within RDT that is dynamic, collaborative, learning-oriented, and high-functioning;
  • May
    participate in submitting larger grant submissions if needed;
  • Work on special projects for the Vice Provost as requested;

  • Some travel between campuses is required;
  • May direct the activities of support staff.


Requires minimum of a bachelor's degree, master's degree is preferred. Must possess in-depth
subject matter knowledge. Requires a minimum of three years related experience, preferably in an academic environment as an administrator,
trainer or grants manager.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving
community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella
(chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include
documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing.
Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who
provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these
diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
