JOB GOAL:
To advance the college's mission, vision, principles, values and
strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The
primary responsibility of the Assistant Softball Coach is to instruct athletes in how to perform in their sport. In addition, they will
support the Head Coach in scheduling and overseeing all in and off season workouts, practices, scrimmages and games.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recruitment: Assist in the recruitment of student athletes.
    Attend off campus games for the purpose of evaluation and contract. Coordinate mailing of recruitment materials and recruiting information.
    Maintain contact with prospective student-athletes. Plan campus visits with prospective student-athletes and their parents.

  • Coaching: Prepare, plan, conduct and evaluate practice sessions, as directed by the head coach. Teach individuals and
    groups of player specific tasks and skills before, during and after practice, during season and off-season.
  • Team
    Administration
    : When directed by the head coach assist in administration of travel arrangements for team by completing the
    following tasks: organize buses, hotels and meals for all away games; processes necessary paperwork before and after every trip.

  • Academics: Under the direction of the head coach assist in coordination of enrollment activities of student-athletes.
    Assist with monitoring academic performance, academic progress and class attendance of student-athletes and intervene when necessary.

  • Campus/Community Communication: Interact with various campus offices and departments. Serve in a leadership role and
    promote participation in community service activities by student athletes.
  • Maintain frequent and consistent public contact with
    high schools, junior colleges, four year schools and clubs for recruitment, scouting and public relations efforts.
  • Perform other
    duties as assigned.

  • Be able and willing to represent the
    College/department in the most positive manner with prospective, former and current students, clients, suppliers and the community we
    serve.
  • Ability to recruit athletes to the College.
  • Ability to read, understand and express oneself clearly and effectively
    in oral and written form.
  • Possess strong human relations skills. Ability to get along with diverse personalities.
  • Be a
    creative, energetic, and self-motivated individual with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.

GENERAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH OR WITHOUT A REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION :

Position involves working in a sporting event setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%)
reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and
hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR EDUCATION AND
EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • One to two years coaching experience preferred.
  • State of
    Iowa coaching endorsement required or must be willing to obtain coaching endorsement for authorization.
  • Must have flexible hours to
    meet practice, games, and travel.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Must
    have a valid Driver's License
