University Staff Information: Pay Schedule-range : 03-13, minimum $18.50, based on qualifications and

Shift : 7:00am-3:00pm, Monday-Friday. After hours, on call, weekend, and holiday hours as needed.

Position Summary: Under the general supervision and direction of the Building & Grounds Superintendent of Facility
Services, the incumbent will perform mechanical maintenance and repairs of a more complex nature for all campus buildings and equipment
including: mechanical system inspection and preventive maintenance; maintenance and repair of grounds equipment; appliances, plumbing,
general carpentry, electrical, mechanical, locks, garage doors, advanced HVAC repair, domestic hot water & steam system repairs
including traps and pressure reducing valves; mechanical drive repair including bearing, shaft, belts, pulleys and motor repair; metal
repair and fabrication using various welding techniques, and service building generators. Operates and uses hand tools, power tools, lathe,
drill press, band saw etc. skillfully and safely; estimates time and materials required on widely varied assignments; keeps computerized
records and prepares reports; performs physical labor; coordinates work flow for multiple projects; reads, comprehends, and works from plans
and prints; trains and directs the work of others; follows and gives oral and written instructions; maintains cooperative working
relationships; demonstrates sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population. Facility Services is committed to the highest standard of

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: - Advanced knowledge in the use of various welding techniques
(arc, oxygen-acetylene, wire feed and heli-arc).

  • Advanced knowledge in the repair and fabrication of misc. parts and
  • Ability to safely remove broken glass and safely close penetration. 
  • Basic carpentry including the
    installation and repair of various millwork (including, but not limited to, doors, windows, trim, molding, baseboard & cabinets).

  • Advanced knowledge in the installation and repair of various piping & plumbing fixtures (including but not limited to faucets,
    toilets, urinals, drinking fountains, plastic pipe, copper pipe and galvanized pipe).
  • Considerable knowledge relating to the repair
    of plumbing related drain blockages.
  • Advanced knowledge relating to the operation, maintenance & repair emergency generators,
    compressed air distribution systems and campus appliances.
  • General swimming pool maintenance (adjust pool water chemistry, pump
    repair, valve repair etc.).
  • Considerable knowledge required relating to electrical installation & repairs (assist electrician
    in installing various electrical boxes, lights, ballasts etc.).
  • Installation and repair of entry systems, passage doors, garage
    doors, locks & jambs.
  • Advanced knowledge in mechanical equipment installation, maintenance & repairs (including, but not
    limited to pumps, fans, gearboxes, shafts, chemical feed equipment, water softeners, water lines, valves, belts, motors, condensate
    receivers, seals, hand dryers, valves etc.). 
  • Considerable knowledge in the maintenance and repair of various tools and
    equipment including: custodial equipment including vacuum cleaners, wet/dry vacuums, carpet scrubbers/extractors, floor sweepers/scrubbers,
    hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, appliances.
  • Ability to safely operate standard hand tools, power tools and other typical
    equipment used in maintenance / repair environment (fork lift, personnel lift, welders, lathe, hand drills, drill press, saws, various power
    tools, hand tools, diagnostic equipment, multi meter, calipers, gauges, tap, die, etc.).
  • Advanced knowledge of HVAC systems and
    equipment (including but not limited to coils, valves, belts, fans, bearings and pumps, motors, t-stats / controls and ductwork).

  • Advanced knowledge in the repair of basic steam & hot water heating systems (traps, valves, strainers etc.).
  • Thorough
    knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, methods and practices of the maintenance trade.

Terms of Employment: This is an on-going University Staff position, non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. This
position is required to serve a six-month probation period. A pre-employment physical assessment will be required. The position requires
driving a state vehicle and meeting the requirements of driving a state vehicle is a condition of employment.
