Degree and area of specialization
A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering field from an accredited institution
of higher education.

Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience
3-5 years working as a licensed electrical engineer.
Professional work experience in the development, preparation and implementation of policy, procedures, electrical safety programs, designs,
specifications for the performance of the activities directly relating to the safe operation, electrical work on new construction,
remodeling, and maintenance projects involving electrical distribution systems from the source utility into the facility electric service.

License or Certificate
Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin or registration in another
state with reciprocal professional registration obtained in Wisconsin within six months of hire is required.

Position Summary
This position serves as an Electrical Engineer for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Campus. This
position has responsibilities in the administration, planning, and management of the installation, maintenance and operation of the
University's electrical system. The position provides technical guidance for the Physical Plant's Electric Shop staff. It additionally
includes responsibility for review of design and specifications for electrical work on new construction, remodeling and maintenance
activities. It requires the incumbent to respond to electrical system problems on a 24-hour basis as needed.

The incumbent will work in collaboration with the campus community in the safeguarding of the electrical system on the University of
Wisconsin-Madison Campus. This incumbent will have responsibilities as a technical expert for developing and implementing, and delivering
policies with operational procedures to ensure safe, economical and efficient use of electrical systems on the UW Madison Campus.

The electrical related matters of an organization the size of UW Madison are dynamic in nature and the incumbent must be able to evaluate
each situation as unique and remediate with profession composure. This position works under the general supervision of the Director for
Safeguard Services, Facilities Planning and Management, Physical Plant and makes independent decisions.

Additional Information

  • Knowledge of electrical engineering systems, practices, standards, including but not
    limited to; federal, state and local fire and electrical safety codes. Applicable knowledge and experience training to OSHA regulations,
    NFPA 70E; NEC, NESC and applicable codes and standards relating to electrical operations of electrical distribution systems from the source
    utility into the facility electric service.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques used in developing energy conservation codes.

  • Ability to design, layout, and prepare plans and specifications for modern electrical systems and to stamp plans as a Professional
    Engineer.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with associates, subordinated, other agencies, and
    the public.
  • Ability to organize, evaluate and present information effectively.
  • Knowledge and ability to utilize standard
    electrical industry software to fully evaluate electric distribution and service systems , coordination, fault current, load flow, phasing,
    and particular to produce arc flash labeling that identify electrically hazardous conditions.
