/>Job Summary

Reviews, analyzes, and evaluates business systems and user needs. Documents requirements, defines scope
and objectives, and formulates systems to parallel overall business strategies.

As a Business Analyst, you will apply your passion
for student success by working closely with leaders, stakeholders, and service providers in academic affairs, student affairs, research,
faculty affairs, and University IT to plan the IT application support strategy for the University of Utah. You will analyze core business
processes, define workflows, gather requirements, and evaluate available solutions to help service partners solve their technology needs.
Working with cross-functional teams, service partners and other IT professionals, you will frame an integrated solution and translate your
conceptual vision using new and existing products. This vision will then be communicated in a clear and detailed design package that
includes business requirements, processes and workflow documentation, conceptual database models, use cases and service requirements.
Software design engineers will use this design package and consult with you to develop applications with the development teams using a
variety of development methodologies including Agile development.

  • Works with business partners to elicit high-level requirements and capture business needs

  • Clearly articulate and document business requirements
  • Assesses the risks of various solutions and prioritizes competing
    business demands
  • Manage ongoing relationship with business partner to drive satisfaction with IT
  • Coordinates project
    delivery by participating in design reviews and walk-throughs to communicate systems designs and validate proposed solutions

  • Obtains key inputs from enterprise architecture teams and identifies solution interdependencies
  • Engage with knowledge workers
    to incorporate usability and user interface needs when designing systems
  • Proactively resolve customer satisfaction issues

  • Negotiate contracts, manage relationships, and monitor vendor performance against SLAs
  • Strong organizational and analytical
    skills with ability to read and interpret technical information
  • Skills to work effectively with cross functional teams

  • Demonstrate business/client engagement skills. Experience in change management or relationship management is desirable

  • Understanding software development processes and methodologies

Time Allocation

  • 30% capturing business needs
    and shaping requirements through dialogue with business sponsors,
  • 20% understanding end-user requirements,
  • 25% working on
    solution design and communicating with solutions team,
  • 10% project management,
  • 10% integration planning/dependency
    management/business process mapping, and
  • 5% supporting testing.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency and 4-6 years of experience
in the field or in a related area.

  • Basic understanding of information technology and higher
    education/business concepts
  • Strong familiarity with higher education functions in one or more of the following areas: Academic

    communication skills

  • Experience working enterprise software
    implementations and upgrades (e.g. Oracle's Campus Solutions/PeopleSoft, College Source's u.Achieve Suite, Instructure Canvas, etc.)

  • Experience working in software development
  • Experience as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a Higher
    Education Student Success discipline - Academic Advising, Admissions, Financial Aid, Records and Registration, Scholarships, etc.

  • Experience in project management
  • Product management certification
  • Project management certification
  • class="caps">ITIL certification
